One of AIEN’s (formerly AIPN) main objectives is to produce model contracts that are widely accepted and used in the international energy industry. These contracts are tools for the negotiator that serve as the starting point for negotiations and significantly decrease the time it takes to finalize a deal.

AIEN model contracts assist parties by allowing them to focus their efforts on key commercial and contractual terms rather than on provisions that are of a standard nature.

AIEN members always receive complimentary access to download all AIEN model contracts, as well as the guidance notes, translations, and educational modules for those contracts where available. Archived contracts are also available complimentary online. Members also enjoy the benefit of joining any of AIEN’s drafting committees.

Non-members may purchase any of the contracts or translations for $185 each.

A list of current model contracts is listed to the right. A list of available archived contracts can be viewed here.

Model Contract Drafting Committees

Drafting committees develop new models and update older versions on an ongoing basis.

Due to differences in industry practices, standards, laws and customs, AIEN drafting committees are composed of a broad-based group of practitioners and negotiators who work together to develop a balanced and comprehensive model contract, using options and alternatives where necessary to reflect differences in international industry practice.

Committee members can participate in meetings and comment on issues relating to a particular contract as it is being developed. The collective insights of committee members and the debates that take place during committee meetings offer a significant educational opportunity for you, the negotiator.

Meetings are held in various locations to encourage broad participation. Conference calls and online resources are also used to solicit input from members who cannot attend in person. Drafting committees are open to all AIEN members. Non-members may request to join one committee.
