Anna Hensel is a Managing Director in the Investigations, Diligence and Compliance team, based in London. Anna leverages more than 30 years of executive experience in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union.
Prior to joining Kroll, Anna handled business development, external affairs and corporate strategy in the energy, private security, defense and logistics sectors. She also has extensive experience with two major oil companies, where she led an upstream business intelligence team and directed their international external affairs and commercial initiatives. Earlier in her career, she provided risk management and protective security solutions to extractive clients and governments in high-risk jurisdictions during her six-year tenure at a top-tier private security and risk management firm.
Anna is a client relationship leader, responsible for business growth and providing guidance and advice to clients, as well as recommending expert advisory solutions that address each unique client requirement. On a project-by-project basis, Anna conducts an initial jurisdictional triage and then works with the relevant regional leaders to ensure the best staff and skillsets are deployed. Anna’s clients include corporates, law firms, government agencies and international development organizations, among others. She works with companies’ legal and regulatory teams and when needed, external counsel, to evaluate regulatory exposure, address self-reporting issues and implement necessary remediation steps.
Anna also worked in the forensics practice at a Big Four firm in the Middle East and Europe. In this role, she supported law firms and corporations in conducting complex investigations and remediations. Additionally, she helped implement practices to prevent, detect and respond to workplace misconduct, corruption, fraud and other financial crimes.
Anna received her bachelor’s degree from American University’s School of International Service and is a recipient of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation fellowship for graduate studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. She has published several articles related to the oil and gas sector, transparency and corruption initiatives.
Michael Silver has served as in house counsel for over 30 years, most recently at VAALCO Energy, Inc. in the capacity of General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Compliance Officer. Prior to that, he was an attorney at BHP Billiton Petroleum, Constellation Energy and ExxonMobil.
Oliver Stern is a Managing Director in the Investigations, Diligence and Compliance practice and the Head of the Business Intelligence team and Africa Practice, based in London. Oliver specializes in sub-Saharan Africa. He leads a wide range of investigations for corporations and financial institutions and their advisers, supporting them as they consider investment decisions and respond to challenges. His work focuses on detailed pre-transactional due diligence, market entry strategy, competitor intelligence, dispute advisory, and internal corruption and bribery investigations and asset traces.
He also works with clients to identify, mitigate and prevent adverse human rights impacts for companies and investors.
Oliver joined Kroll in February 2016 after working for the multinational mining company Anglo American for over three years on its London-based Strategy and Business Development team. He is a country risk and business environment specialist with extensive international experience, including three years living and working in Mozambique.
David H. Sweeney is a partner in Clifford Chance’s Houston office and is head of the oil and gas group. He advises clients on a broad range of oil and gas, coal, and other natural resource, infrastructure, service, and corporate transactions. His engagements include more than US$100 billion of transaction value, including mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity finance and capital deployment, operational matters, and financial restructurings, spanning the entire natural resource value chain in over 30 countries.
David is a frequent author and speaker on oil and gas topics and has written a comprehensive book on world-wide joint operating agreements and another on worldwide farmout, participation, and similar agreements. He is the past chair of the Institute for Energy Law’s Young Energy Professionals group and the Association for International Energy Negotiators’ Young Negotiators Group and has served on the Executive committee of the Institute for Energy Law.
Lauren Wilder is a Senior Corporate Negotiator in Chevron’s Corporate Business Development team, specializing in upstream acquisitions and divestments to support Chevron’s Oil, Products, and Gas business in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. She has previously supported the Chevron New Energies business with a focus on originating and negotiating investment opportunities related to CCUS and Carbon Offsets. Prior to joining Chevron in 2022, Lauren was with Repsol for several years where she was head of the Upstream Americas Business Development team and executed transactions in a number of jurisdictions including Latam, the Caribbean, Alaska North Slope, and Lower 48. She began her career at Hess Corporation, in various commercial and negotiations roles of increasing responsibility, supporting exploration and development teams in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Ghana, Gabon, Kurdistan, and Gulf of Mexico. During her nearly 20-year career, she has actively served in various Director and Executive Committee roles of the Association of International Energy Negotiators and was a founding member of the AIEN-Young Negotiators subgroup in 2008. She holds a BS in Biological Sciences and an MBA in Supply Chain/Logistics, both from the University of Alabama.
