Iain Fergusson worked in private practice as a commercial lawyer, prior to joining OGCI Climate Investments. Iain worked with Freshfields in London and Moscow on banking transactions and with BG in Kazakhstan before founding, and leading for over twenty years, a successful boutique energy law firm specialising in investor-state transactions and the resolution of disputes in the upstream oil and gas sector. Iain has been practising law since 1990 and holds an MA in Jurisprudence from Oxford University and a Masters in European Law from the London School of Economics.
Tim Bertels has 34 years of international (oil & gas) business experience, including 15 years on CO2 emissions management and CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS). Tim held several technical & leadership positions in Royal Dutch Shell companies across the world, covering Exploration & Production, technology RD&D, change management, Government relations, strategy & planning, CO2 emissions management and global CCS implementation. Tim is passionate about tackling complex multi-stakeholder - societal and corporate - challenges with practical strategies, action plans, and delivery, driving change as required.
Since 2005 Tim worked full-time on CO2 management in Shell, as CO2 Business Development Manager, CCS Portfolio Manager, and head of Shell’s Corporate CO2 Implementation Team. Responsibilities included the implementation of CO2 Emissions Management in Shell’s Global Businesses, co-development of the Shell Group’s CCS strategy, and managing the CCS activities program. In this capacity he represented Shell at the Global CCS Institute (GCCSI), the IEAGHG Executive Committee, the Zero Emission Platform (ZEP) Advisory & Executive Committee, and various other (inter-)national committees advancing CCS. In addition, he represented Shell at multiple international conferences and engaged regularly with government officials and policy makers across the world.
In December 2016 Tim concluded his 30+ years career with Shell to partner in “DAREL” (www.darel.nl). As senior partner, management and project consultant, he continued to support industry and (local) government in delivering the Energy Transition and CO2 emissions reduction targets. In May 2017 Tim was asked to lead the Rotterdam CCUS Project “PORTHOS” (www.rotterdamccus.nl), he has been the PORTHOS Project Director until handover in July 2019. Tim is currently advising the expansion of CCS deployment in The Netherlands and neighbouring countries.
Tim holds an MSc degree in Mining Engineering/Geophysics from Delft University of Technology (1986), and completed the Shell Group Business Leadership Program at IMD Business School, Lausanne (2008). He has been married for 32 years and was given three sons. Hobbies and interests include European History, Opera, and tennis/squash
Robert Zwakenberg has 25 years of international business experience, within the Power, Oil&Gas and Chemical industries, covering Research & Development, Sales, Business Development and Asset Management.
Robert is a pragmatic entrepreneur with organizational skills combined with strong analytical and business competences. Ambitious coach and motivator with a sense of humor.
In 2014, Robert established E-nergetic Consultancy BV wich supports companies in their ambition to reduce CO2 or to develop green technologies. Since the establishment, E-nergetic Consultancy is involved in a broad range of projects, such as: converting biomass to biochemicals and/or energy, Power-to-H2, establishing local heat-distribution networks with industrial residual heat and/or geothermal heat.
In 2018 Robert was asked by EBN, in the role of commercial advisor, to lead the Porthos commercial offshore workstream. The focus of this role is to secure offshore oil&gas assets to be re-used for CO2 storage.
Philip Hemmens is Senior Vice President of North Europe for eni SpA, and Chairman of the Board of Vår energi in Norway.
He has over 40 years of experience in global oil and gas exploration and production, having lived in 10 countries on 4 continents.
In his 20 years with eni he has held several senior positions including being the Managing Director for eni in Norway, UK and Pakistan; Senior Vice President HSEQ; Regional Vice President – Business Development and Transportation Asia; and Vice President E&P Technical Services for Eni Lasmo. He has also acted as a Director and Chairman of the Board for several Eni subsidiary companies and operations worldwide.
Mr Hemmens joined Eni when they acquired Lasmo plc where he was the Technical General Manager, having previously worked for Conoco and Schlumberger.
Phil Hemmens graduated with degrees in Physics and Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, London and has a Diploma in General Management from IMD, Lausanne. He is a Fellow of the Energy Institute.
Willem Bloem is an Independent Advisor to the International Energy Industry.
He has recently finished an assignment for Schlumberger Production Management where he was responsible for the development of large scale upstream alliances in Asia Pacific. Prior to this, he was Country Manager for Lundin Petroleum in Indonesia, based in Jakarta where he was responsible for all Lundin Petroleum’s Exploration & Production activities in Indonesia, including five operated exploration Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) in the Natuna Sea and offshore North Papua, a working interest in a producing PSC onshore Sumatra, as well as New Ventures. Following a strategic review in late 2014, he successfully sold Lundin Indonesia after a 9 month sales process involving 90+ interested parties.
Before Lundin, Willem worked for Petrofac Energy Developments for 9 years where he held a variety of roles in Upstream Business Development and Operations, including Managing Director for Petrofac Norway (2007) and General Manager for the Tunisia upstream operations (2009) and Director Business Development SE Asia, based in Malaysia from 2010 – 2014 where amongst others he delivered the first Risk Service Contract for the $1bn Berantai gas field development.
His prior experience includes 14 years in Shell in various international assignments, ranging from technical roles in Facilities Engineering and as Offshore Installation Manager, to commercial roles in Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Finance and Gas & Power (LNG) Business Development.
Willem is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers for which he served as Chairman of the London section in 2005/06. He holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University (Netherlands) and attended the Corporate Finance Evening Programme at London Business School.
