Geological hydrogen, generated and accumulated naturally in the subsurface, is drawing rapidly growing interest across the energy, mining and investment communities. As exploration expands and early-stage projects move toward commercial evaluation, the resource raises questions that geology alone cannot answer: how will these projects be financed, regulated, allocated and ultimately contracted?
Join the AIEN New Energies committee focused on Geological Hydrogen for a focused session examining the opportunity from three connected angles: science, capital and contracts.
Our featured speakers will begin by framing what geological hydrogen is and why it is gaining momentum, before turning to the underlying science and geological processes that govern how potential resources are identified and assessed.
From there, the discussion will move from the resource to the project level, exploring capital requirements, investment considerations and the regulatory questions emerging around exploration and development.
The live webinar will conclude with implications for commercial negotiators, identifying the contractual issues likely to surface as projects advance, including resource ownership, exploration rights, risk allocation, project development, financing, offtake, and the allocation of geological and commercial uncertainty.
For AIEN members and the broader energy community, the objective is not simply to introduce a new resource, but to begin asking what a commercially workable framework for geological hydrogen projects will require.
Attendees will gain an introductory understanding of the geological hydrogen value chain, along with the scientific, financial, regulatory and contractual questions the sector will need to address as it develops.
