AbdulMuiz Aziz, Senior Vice President - Climate & Sustainability Practice Lead, PEMANDU Associates
AbdulMuiz is a Senior Vice President at PEMANDU Associates based in Kuala Lumpur, with more than 18 years of consulting experience across strategic planning and implementation, ESG and sustainability, programme design, digital strategy and transformational change management. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has worked on various functional areas related to sectors such as public policy and governance, healthcare, investment and industry development, transport, digital economy and business services.
He has served in several consulting firms including Accenture, PwC and KPMG, and was part of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) in the Government of Malaysia, managing performance management and industry development of one the key economic area under Malaysia’s National Transformation Programme. This role enabled him to deep dive into public policy issues related to enhancing human capital, attracting investments and jobs, as well as facilitating public private partnerships to grow the industry in a sustainable manner.
During this time, he was also seconded to the President’s Office of Tanzania to build the local capacity and operationalize the President’s Delivery Bureau in order to implement the plans under the Big Results Now! (BRN) transformation programme. He led the establishment of performance monitoring and problem-solving mechanism as well as mobilising partnerships to deliver developmental goals under the BRN, along with engagement with multilateral institutions, international NGOs and the private sector.
He currently leads PEMANDU Associates’ Climate and Sustainability practice, with prior involvement in various national and state level transformation as well as ESG and sustainability related projects. He was the Project Manager for a Green Economy Policy and Carbon Trading Strategy for the largest state government in Malaysia, as well as Sustainability Report for a State-owned Asset & Investment Corporation in Malaysia.
He is a Chevening scholar who holds a MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of St Andrews and a B.Eng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London.
Paul Greening, Partner, Jones Day; AIEN Asia Regional Director
Paul Greening advises on international energy, oil and gas, utilities, maritime law, and infrastructure projects across Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America, and the Middle East. Paul has an increasing focus on the energy transition and the role of hydrogen and carbon capture and storage as well as the decommissioning of offshore E&P (exploration and production) assets. He has substantial experience in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, including natural gas and LNG sale and purchase agreements and LNG project development. Clients value Paul's hands-on approach and in-depth understanding of complex commercial and regulatory issues specific to the energy sector. He also handles cross-border energy-related mergers and acquisitions and divestitures.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Paul advised a range of clients, including private equity and fund investors, project sponsors/developers, and traders, on energy and infrastructure-related joint venture and project development and trading transactions across the full energy value chain. He recently advised on the establishment of a joint venture for the acquisition of upstream E&P assets across Southeast Asia; the development of LNG export projects in the United States, Africa, and Australia; long-term LNG offtake arrangements for IOCs (international oil companies); short-term LNG trading arrangements for Singapore-based traders; and hydrogen and ammonia export projects in Australia and North America. His experience also extends into financial restructuring matters in the shipping and offshore services and downstream petrochemicals sectors.
Paul is the Asia Regional Director for the Association of International Energy Negotiators and regularly speaks on energy industry trends and issues, with a particular focus on the role the oil and gas industry can play in driving the energy transition.
