Taciana Peão Lopes

Taciana Peão Lopes is an accomplished legal and energy professional with over 23 years of experience in Mozambique’s energy sector. Her expertise spans legal and institutional frameworks, LNG, local content, and energy transition development. She holds an LL.M. in Energy Law from the North Sea Energy Law Programme and was awarded the 2022 Power Play Pioneer Award for her outstanding contributions to the LNG industry.
She is the Founding and Managing Partner of TPLA – Taciana Peão Lopes & Associados, a boutique law firm dedicated to supporting the development of sustainable energy and infrastructure projects that aim to bring transformational impact to Mozambique.
Taciana also serves as Chairman of the Board of MES – Mozambique Enterprise for Sustainability, a joint venture with DAI International that operates the MozUp Enterprise Development Center, sponsored by the Area 4 partners of the Rovuma LNG project, led by ExxonMobil. MozUp is a center of excellence that cultivates competitive Mozambican businesses, equipping them with transferable skills and knowledge to support local economic development. It is a multi-stakeholder platform connecting Mozambican businesses and international partners to emerging market opportunities, including those within the LNG supply chain.
An AIEN member since 2014 and part of the Africa Regional Chapter since 2021, Taciana brings to this work her deep legal expertise in negotiating energy-related instruments, her entrepreneurial vision, and a strong commitment to gender equality—helping Mozambican SMEs and professionals navigate and benefit from the energy transition value chain.
She is also the co-founder of MWE – Mozambique Women of Energy, an association dedicated to promoting women’s participation in the energy sector and aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 5 (gender equality) and 7 (affordable and clean energy). Through her initiatives, she is working to change the narrative of Mozambique and position it as a leader in the global energy transition.
Taciana is married to Mozambican composer and producer Joni Schwalbach and is the proud mother of four children.
